Macro-Friendly Sloppy Joe Bowls
We took a family-favorite dinner and turned it into a delicious, macro-friendly version that's just as popular at the dinner table. Our Macro-Friendly Sloppy Joe Bowls are packed with protein, flavor, and satisfaction.
Equipment
- 1 Cooking spoons or spatulas
- 1 Veggie chopper or cutting board + knife
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Olive oil
- 1 lb Lean ground turkey – I used 93/7
- 1 Small yellow onion, chopped
- 3 Cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
- 2 Small celery stalks, chopped
- 2 Large carrots, chopped
- 1 Large green bell pepper, chopped
- 1/2 cup Bone broth Beef or chicken
- 1 can 15 oz. no salt added tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup Ketchup
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 1 tbsp Light brown sugar
For serving:
- 3 cups Roasted sweet potatoes
- Optional: Pickled red onions, jalapenos
Instructions
- Wash and prepare all produce as described above.
- In a large stovetop skillet, add 1 tbsp of olive oil over medium heat. Add ground turkey, salt, pepper, and garlic. Allow to cook until no longer pink, about 7-8 minutes. Drain excess liquid.
- Add celery, carrots, and bell pepper to the skillet and saute until veggies are softened, about 5-8 minutes.
- Add the bone broth, tomato sauce, ketchup, worcestershire sauce, paprika, and brown sugar to the skillet. Stir to combine. Simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
- Once the sauce has thickened, divide the sloppy joes into 6 bowls. Add ½ cup sweet potatoes to each bowl. Garnish with pickled red onions and/or jalapenos (optional). Enjoy!
Notes
Serving size is 1/6 of the recipe. To get the most accurate measurement, weigh your entire dish in grams after cooking (less the weight of the container) and divide that number by 6.
