With St. Patrick's Day around the corner, celebrate with a healthy and delicious alternative to the classic Shamrock Shake! Our minty shake is just as creamy, cool, and sweet but made packed with protein – perfect for those wanting a healthier treat this holiday season.

Honestly, I’m usually not a fan of mint chocolate things, but this milkshake just works! It is so light and creamy, that the mint flavor isn’t too overpowering. Plus the milkshake is packed with protein and nutrition, which won’t leave you feeling yucky afterward. The key to the perfect shake is to use frozen cauliflower florets in place of traditional ice cubes. This adds volume and creaminess while also providing an extra kick of much-needed vitamins, minerals, and fiber. So don't wait any longer; upgrade your post-workout snack with a delicious macro-friendly mint chocolate protein milkshake!

3 Reasons Why You Will Love This Recipe

over the top shot of mint chocolate chip protein milkshake
  1. Protein packed: Protein is an essential macronutrient that plays a key role in the development and maintenance of our muscles, skin, and bones. This protein milkshake packs almost 30g of protein, making it a delicious treat!
  2. Thick and delicious: The only way to have a milkshake in my opinion is to make sure it's thickkkkk. Using cauliflower vs ice helps to achieve this by not watering it down!
  3. Easy and versatile: This is literally a “throw everything in the blender and blend” type of milkshake. Plus, you can change in the mix-ins or toppings if you want to truly make a one-of-a-kind milkshake!

  • Frozen cauliflower: Okay, bare with me.. Instead of using ice in this shake, which I find waters things down, I opted for frozen cauliflower. It has no taste, PLUS it adds a veggie serving to your day! I promise you won’t even notice there is cauliflower in it, but if needed you may swap with ice.
  • Edy’s Slow Churn Ice Cream: I used the vanilla bean flavor to add to the creamy flavor. I’m not even an ice cream person, but this line has ½ the fat of regular ice cream!
  • Protein powder: I used PEScience Chocolate Mint protein powder. You may use your favorite protein powder in vanilla or chocolate flavor as well! We also like 1st Phorm Level-1 Mint Ice Cream Sandwich and Clean Simple Eats Mint Chocolate Cookie (code TAMI)
  • Milk: I used regular milk. You may use whatever variety works for you- almond, oat milk, etc.
  • Mint extract: This is to increase the overall mint flavor. You may omit if you prefer a lighter mint flavor.
  • Green food coloring: This is optional, but it helps color the milkshake. You may omit it if you do not have food coloring on hand or prefer to not use it.
  • Mint chocolate chips: I found mint chocolate chips at Walmart. Lily’s Sweets also make a sugar free version.

Swaps or Alternatives

Using cauliflower is my little hack of increasing the nutrients without sacrificing flavor, but if the thought of cauliflower grosses you out, feel free to swap with ice!

To make this shake dairy-free, opt for your favorite dairy-free alternative milk and ice cream. Although this recipe was tested with whey/casein-based protein powder, vegan protein powder should work fine.

What if I can’t find the ice cream you recommended?

No worries, use whatever ice cream you have on hand or prefer! There are several brands that have a Mint chocolate chip variety, which would add to the mint vibe!

What can I use instead of cauliflower?

If you prefer to not use cauliflower, you may use ice in place of it. Banana can also be used but that will add a different flavor to your shake, as well as alter the nutrition information.

Can I customize this protein shake?

Of course, feel free to add whatever additions you would like. Oreo’s, whipped cream, Nilla wafers, brownie pieces- the ideas are endless!
