Counting macros is a great way to keep track of whether or not your meals are falling into the recommended macronutrient ranges for things like protein, carbs and fats. Macros are what the body runs on, and many people count them to manage their weight or build muscle. I personally count macros for weight loss, whereas my husband is more interested in tracking them for fitness and muscle build.

To make sure that we’re constantly keeping track of our meals, we have been ordering ready-made food that gets delivered right to our door. In this review, I’m going to talk to you about Nutre Meals and Trifecta Meals. Let’s break down what they offer, how much they cost and what you can expect from your first order.

A Glance at Nutre Meals

Nutre Meals began in 2017 when two brothers were tasked with coming up with diabetes-friendly meals for their father. The Perrina brothers took their meal delivery concept to the internet and now offer dozens of different meal options each week. The menu is created by an expert team of dieticians and chefs, with a variety of snacks, drinks and sweets available for an additional cost.

Nutre Meals caters to a number of specialty diets, such as gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, diabetic-friendly, low-carb, low-calorie and protein +. We use Nutre Meals to help us count our macros, but it’s a great option for other needs as well.

What Are the Macro-Friendly Meals That Nutre Meals Offers?

Nutre Meals offers different low-carb and high-protein meal options that we love having in our refrigerator at all times. Some of their menu provides you with options for a regular meal or protein+, meaning you get two ounces more of protein. This is a nice option for my husband, who consumes more protein than I do.

I love the house-marinated steak tips, Cajun chicken and Italian chicken tenders. All of the sides are veggie-heavy, with plenty of low-carb and low-calorie options available.

My Experience With Nutre Meals

Nutre Meals has provided a way for my husband and I to stay on track with counting our macros. I like to watch what I eat for weight loss and to be able to stay energized for my workouts. My husband is more focused on counting macros for muscle-building purposes. Nutritional information is provided on the Nutre Meals website for all of the meal options that they’re currently offering. This makes meal planning super simple. We still cook at home, but this is a great way to make sure that we’re not slipping with our diet by grabbing a fast lunch or easy dinner that we don’t know the macros for.

What Are Trifecta Meals?

trifecta meals on the table

Trifecta Meals provides a unique way to count your macros and adhere to a healthy diet. You can start the process by completing their quiz to see which meals are right for you. You can also just start by browsing what they have to offer. Trifecta Meals are based on healthy, organic food that is low in sodium and high in protein. The company also offers an app that helps you stay on track with your meal planning and diet.

What Are the Macro-Friendly Meals That Trifecta Offers?

Trifecta offers a few different meal plan options, including clean, paleo, keto and plant based. You can also choose if you need to exclude any specific ingredients because of preference or allergy. Some of my favorites include the high-protein chicken pasta, teriyaki chicken, spiced turkey and cauliflower rice and brisket burrito with guacamole. You can view the nutritional information for all of these meals on the Trifecta Meals website.

My Experience With Trifecta Meals

I have placed a couple of orders with Trifecta Meals to see what they’re all about. While I’m a big fan of Nutre Meals, I also liked many of the meals that Trifecta sent us. Unfortunately, I found the flavor to be lacking a little bit. A lot of these meals were similar to what you’d get from a frozen dinner, with the texture and flavor being slightly compromised. I did like the beef and cheddar chili bowl and the spiced turkey and cauliflower rice.

Comparison Section Between Trifecta Meals vs. Nutre Meals

How do Trifecta Meals and Nutre Meals compare? Let’s take a look at a breakdown.

Comparing Macro-Friendly Meals

I feel like Nutre Meals makes it a lot easier to count our macros and find meals that are going to fit into our typical diet. I like the selection that Nutre Meals provides as well. They are more in line with the types of foods that I would normally prepare at home.

Trifecta Meals does have some macro-friendly meal options, but there’s not a ton of variety. They use cauliflower rice for a lot of their meals, which I can get sick of quickly.

Comparing the Quality and Freshness of Food

Having meals delivered to your door can be a bit expensive, depending on the company that you’re using. For the amount of money that I’m paying, I want to make sure that I’m getting excellent quality and freshness. Both Nutre Meals and Trifecta Meals have meals that are cooked to perfection. I thought there was a little more of an advantage when ordering from Nutre Meals. Their meat and vegetables were extremely fresh and the texture was on point.

Comparing Pricing (Cost per Meal)

Both Nutre Meals and Trifecta Meals offer weekly plans. Currently, you can purchase Nutre Meals for about $64.95 per week when you order five meals at a time. The cost is $127.90 per week for 10 meals.

Trifecta costs $104.93 per delivery, with an additional $9.99 for shipping. This is for 10 meals.

What Are the Main Differences Between Nutre Meals and Trifecta Meals?

Nutre Meals keeps things exciting with frequent changes in their menu. It appears to me that Trifecta Meals are changed a little less frequently. However, there is a lot to choose from.

I also like the breakdown of macros and nutrients when you’re perusing the Nutre Meals website. It makes it easier for me to plan our meals for the week.

Final Thoughts

Counting macros sounds intimidating to a lot of people, especially when you’re planning all of your own meals. The process is actually pretty simple when you get the hang of it. Utilizing a company like Nutre Meals or Trifecta Meals can help a great deal. Weekly meal deliveries eliminate the guesswork of trying to figure out what’s in everything that you eat. We tend to use our meal deliveries for lunches or a convenient dinner. Though these companies do allow you to add breakfast, we tend to make our own at home.

My Recommendations

Take a minute or two to look at the different meal options that are available from Nutre Meals and Trifecta Meals. It’s likely that one company is going to stand out more than the other in regard to foods that you want to eat. I personally prefer Nutre Meals. I like the quality of the food, and it reheats really well.
